Shannon Wong, MD - Bio
Dr. Shannon Wong is one of Austin’s most experienced ophthalmologists performing surgical vision correction procedures. He has performed well over 5000 laser vision correction procedures and 5000 cataract and refractive lens procedures. He has performed vision correction surgery for his wife, relatives, neighbors, employees, physicians, politicians, actors, television and media personalities, professional and olympic athletes. His commitment to providing the highest quality of care for each patient includes using the most advanced technology. Importantly each patient that Dr. Shannon Wong sees will have their consultation and preoperative counseling, preoperative exam, surgery and each postoperative exam done by Dr. Shannon Wong. This continuity of care is essential to obtaining the best results possible.
Dr. Shannon Wong is an Austin native. He graduated from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin. He received his undergraduate degree from Rice University in Houston, TX. He graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX before beginning his Internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA. His residency in ophthalmology was completed at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA where he was also the Chief Resident in Ophthalmology. He is past Chief of Ophthalmology at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin.
The Austin Eye Clinic was the first practice to perform LASIK in Austin in 1995. Drs Mitchel and Shannon Wong have continued to stay at the leading edge of surgical vision correction technology. They were the first ophthalmologists providing IntraLASIK in the Austin area. IntraLASIK (bladeless LASIK) used in combination with the VISX S4 IR laser allows the safest, most accurate vision correction possible. Custom IntraLASIK (aka iLASIK) allows Dr. Shannon Wong to utilize wavefront technology to deliver the most accurate laser treatment for vision correction.
In addition to Custom Intralasik, Dr. Shannon Wong routinely performs cataract and refractive lens surgery. Most procedures are done at the Austin Eye Laser and Surgicenter located at 11901 Jollyville Road. Since 2004, he has been using adjustable focus lens implants to enable seamless vision far, near and in-between without glasses. Over the past 6 years, he and Dr. Mitchel Wong have used the crystalens, restor, tecnis multifocal and rezoom lens in hundreds of patients with excellent results to date.
Dr. Shannon Wong and Dr. Mitchel Wong have been recognized by the Summit Autonomous Society for ranking among the highest volume LASIK surgeons in the United States. They have been recognized by Intralase Corporation (the company that make the intralase laser) as pioneers in Intralasik surgery. Their expertise in surgical vision correction has been featured in news reports in the Austin American Statesman, the Austin Business Journal, Fox 7 News, KXAN news, KVUE news and in Austin Home and Living Magazine numerous times over the past 10 years.
